Warner announces Batman: Arkham City for fall 2011

arkham city

Warner’s just announced Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham Asylum sequel, known as Arkham City.

The game releases next fall for PS3, 360 and Games for Windows

The sequel to Arkham Aslyum was announced last December at the VGAs, where a teaser trailer showed that Arkham Asyum itself was moved into Gotham City.

It also showed the Joker and Harley Quinn for the game, confirming their appearances in the game.

Also mentioned for the Rocksteady sequel was baddies Talia al Ghul, Mr. Freeze and Two Face.

The UK dev was bought earlier this year by Warner, who will be publishing the game this time instead of Arkham Asylum publisher Square Enix.

I can only think of one word right now: it begins with P and ends with umped.

Press release is below.

New LBP2 trailer is just plain awesome

lbp24

Sackboy: you either love him or you love him. There’s no other way. The following LBP2 trailer backs up the theory.

The trailer shows some of the new tools at your disposable, as you try to save Craftworld from the horrible Negativitron.

This time around, the Media Molecule DIY sequel allows you  to create full games instead of full levels like in the original, although there will be 50 pre-created levels for those without the creative cell in their genes.

Time to get watching, it’s awesome.

LittleBigPlanet 2 releases on November 16 in the US, while a European date is unknown, but expect that to be announced at gamescom in a week-and-a-half.

Another Mafia II trailer :D

mafia II

GT’s gotten up a new trailer of Mafia II, showing the grimy side of being a 1940s Italian gangster.

The clip, shows robbery, bribing cops, burying bodies, shoot-outs and throwing people out of windows. Everyday stuff.

This one’s not too far out now: demo’s out next Tuesday on PSN, Xbox Live and Steam.

The game itself releases on August 27 for PS3, 360 and PC in the UK.

God I can’t wait for this game, it’s killing me!!

Mafia is my favorite game of all time :D The feeling it emits is simply amazing ^^

Anyway here’s the trailer :)

Toy Story 3 to hit $400 million!

How rare is the $400 million dollar movie?

This question seems particularly apropos considering that Disney/Pixar’s “Toy Story 3” is on the verge of reaching this historic milestone.  Through Wednesday, August 4, the 3-D animated juggernaut has earned $392.45 million in domestic revenue.  So let’s break down the time line: with just over $5 million this past weekend and mid-weeks in the $1 million range it will most certainly reach $400 million during the week of August 9.

It’s astonishing to think that in the history of cinema that only 10 (yes you read it correctly, 10) films have ever crossed that milestone.  It’s also notable that six of those instances occurred in the last decade.

This statistic was shocking even to me, a jaded and long-term observer of box office trends and stats.  Just ten films out of the countless thousands of films released throughout the years.  Of course increased ticket prices have made this milestone possible, but it’s still no less of an achievement given the level of competition that exists in the overall entertainment universe.

Here is the list of the current members of the $400 million club:

Avatar - $749.7 million

Titanic – $600.8 million

The Dark Knight - $533.3 million

Star Wars -
$460.9 million

Shrek 2 – $436.7 million

E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial
– $434.9 million

Star Wars: Episode One - The Phantom Menace
– $431.1 million

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest – $423.3 million

Spider-Man – $403.7 million

Transfomers: Revenge of the Fallen – $402.1 million

(Domestic gross only, includes re-releases)

343 Industries: Master Chief will return in future Halo games!!

ZOMG!!

halo3a

He may have finished the fight, but Chief’s not done. Far from it.

Heavy spoiler warning after the jump regarding the ending of Halo 3.

343 Industries boss Frankie O’Connor told a panel at Comic-Con last night that it would be a bit of a tit if it didn’t finish off Master Chief’s story following the conclusion of Halo 3.

“We’d have to be the world’s biggest assholes not to follow through,” said O’Connor.

“We certainly haven’t seen the last of Master Chief.”

Time to stick your fingers in your ears and close your eyes if you don’t want the end of Halo 3 spoiled.

At the end of Halo 3, Master Chief and Cortana are stuck on one half of a ship which has split in two, before Chief gets sent into cryosleep.

In the Legendary ending for Halo 3, a mysterious planet is seen in the horizon. O’Connor confirmed at the event that it was indeed a planet, not a spaceship.

Last week, it was spotted that 343 had kicked off work on a new project, which was built specifically for the Halo IP following original developer Bungie’s wishes to move away from the series.

“Hell, it’s about damn time” – StarCraft II launched worldwide

starcraft ii launch

Over three years after it was announced at the Worldwide Invitational in Seoul, and 12 years after the release of the original, Blizzard’s finally launched StarCraft II.

Nuclear detonation

The massive jabber-whammy title launched at midnight across the world, with fans going bonkers in Stockholm, Paris, Moscow and more.

There’s a full line-up of shots over at Kotaku.

RPS, meanwhile, has the low-down on last night’s official UK launch at Game in London, and Big Download has shots of the South Korean launch.

The game’s Facebook group also has shots of every worldwide launch.

Collector’s Edition unboxed

Still need convincing to buy it? You’re mad, woman.

Good thing Kotaku’s got up an unboxing video of what to expect from the Collector’s Edition. You’ll get the game itself, Jim Raynor’s dog tag USB memory stick, soundtrack, comic and art book, soundtrack and guest passes for SCII and World of Warcraft.

No reviews coming till the end of the week (probably)

In case you missed the memo, there won’t be any reviews of the game today because of Blizzard wants everyone to have the full lot of features of Battle.net available at the same time. That includes journos.

You’ll probably get some first impressions today, but nothing with numbers at the end until probably the end of the week at the earliest.

Now you’ve seen the launch’s glitz, all you need to do is just wait for the shops to open to get your copy. Or wait for the post. Whatever.

Next up: Zerg-based expansion Heart of the Swarm. When? “When it’s ready,” knowing Blizzard.

Blizzard: WoW movie still happening despite slow process

wow2

Blizzard’s Vice president of creative development, Chris Metzen, has said the progress on the World of Warcraft movie has slowed, but it’s still happening.

Speaking at Comic Con during a WoW merchandising panel, Metzen said director Sam Raimi is still “very, very passionate” about making the movie, and once the screenplay treatment is finished, “hopefully it’ll start moving very quickly, very soon.”

Back in April, Metzen told VG247 Blizzard was “kinda getting a lot of values together” regarding the story and how best to do the movie.

Sounds like things haven’t evolved much further in the past few months, but all big projects take time, especially if it’s to be done right.

On another WoW related note, Metzen also announced during the panel the next WoW novel will be called The Shattering, and gives readers a backstory leading up to the Cataclysm expansion.

Metzen said there are “dark times ahead” for Azeroth with Deathwing returning, and large parts of the game world will be destroyed by earthquakes.

“It’s going to get rough out there for a while,” he said. “But there’s a plan. The great heroes always rise to the top.”

2010 Vampire Showdown

16 Bloodsuckers

One Winner

Let’s read :p

Hello fellow mates who are sick of hearing about vampires! So today, is the release of the so-not fantastic Ecplise, and because of that here’s a little tournament between the 16 most epic vampires! :p anyway see it, it’s fun.

*some results may be corrupted due to my preference* just kidding! :p

I would have put an image showing the tournament table, how do I say it, changing with the progression but that would require a lot of images and it wouldn’t turn out that well so here’s only two :p

Round 1:

1). Eric (True Blood) VS. Rayne (BloodRayne)
After long, hot, sweaty hours of…um… fighting, Rayne finally surrendered to Eric’s enormous…talent. We can’t blame her; few women can resist his blond, muscular Viking mystique.

2). Bill (True Blood) VS. Lestat (Interview with a Vampire)
Much like the actor who portrays him (Tom Cruise), Lestat de Lioncourt’s best days are behind him. If Brad Pitt and a little girl can finish him off, then Bill Compton is certainly more than capable of staking this frou-frou Frenchman.

3). Caleb (Bordello of Blood) VS. David (The Lost Boys)
Kiefer Sutherland’s undead ringleader already clashed with a Corey Feldman character in Joel Schumacher’s dark action film, but the former child star’s own vampire Caleb Verdoux is no match for the biker bloodsucker. Sorry Caleb, the clock has run out for you!

4). Selene (Underworld) VS. Satanico Pandemonium (From Dusk Til Dawn)
Behold the battle of the bloodsucking babes! These two vamps are not to be trifled with – one lays waste to werewolves while the other slays scumbags at sleazy strip club. Satanico tried to seduce Selene with her sultry dance act, but Selene doesn’t swing that way, so she put a couple of silver bullets in her head and put an end to the Pandemonium.

5). Blade VS. Amy Peterson (Fright Night)
There’s really no question about the outcome of this duel. Blade is a stone cold killer; he lives to vanquish vampires and sweet Amy Peterson from Fright Night is relatively new to the whole undead thing, so the Daywalker put her down quickly.

6). Eli (Let The Right One In) VS. Edward Cullen (Twilight)
Eli may be pretty tough for a 12 year old, but if Edward is effective against anything, it’s pre-teen girls.

7). Dracula (Bram Stoker’s Dracula) VS. Spike (Buffy The Vampire Slayer)
Buffy’s most badass vampire tried his best, but couldn’t beat the original dark master (bator). Guess he’ll never get those 11 pounds back.

8). Blacula VS. The Count (Sesame Street)
What is there to say? The Count’s obsessive compulsive counting was a pretty big liability in this fight. “One, two… two vampires! AH AH AH AH AH!” Not for long, Von Count. Blacula has an insatiable thirst… even for synthetic muppet flesh.

Round 2:

9). Eric VS. Bill
Bill can whine all he wants about our decision, but we all know Eric is way cooler. For one thing, he can go more than 10 minutes without getting kidnapped. For another, Bill’s so short Eric can probably just hold the top of his head and Bill won’t be able to reach him.

10). David VS. Selene
Both David and Selene have taken their share of lives, but the former generally preys on weak humans while the latter takes on all sorts of supernatural beings. Her fighting skills (and arsenal) are therefore vastly superior to David’s, making the battle pretty painless for Selene.

11). Blade VS. Edward Cullen
Edward looked around, forlorn, his perfect eyes haunted by repressed lust and an unquenchable thirst. A footstep sounded in the darkness behind him. “Bella?” he whispered, his undead pout spreading to a grin. “I don’t think so, motherfucker.” Edward had just a second to turn before he felt the stake tear through his sparkly flesh. He looked up into the face of death and saw its cruel smile. “Some motherfuckers are always trying to ice-skate uphill.”

12). Dracula VS. Blacula
You’d think that Blacula could take down Dracula because he’s younger, hipper, and lives in Los Angeles instead of some decrepit Eastern European castle, right? Wrong. Dracula brought Blacula into this world, and he can take him out just as easily. That’s just the way things tend to work in the vampire world. Deal with it.

Round 3:

13). Eric VS. Selene
Unlike Rayne, Selene is too hardcore to be confused by Eric’s demonstrable sexual charms. Nevertheless, Eric Northman, the most powerful vampire in Area 5, is no Lycan. The former Viking is over 1000 years old, can rip a man into pieces, and flies. Selene, sadly, doesn’t stand a chance.

14). Blade VS. Dracula
Blade battled a bogus Dracula in his third cinematic outing, but he’s never faced anyone or anything quite as terrifying as Gary Oldman’s Prince of Darkness. Though he’s put an end to vampire villains like Morbius and Deacon Frost in his time, he finally succumbed to Vlad III Draculea.

Final Battle:

Eric

Dracula

Stats: Eric
Age:
~1000
Height: 6’4″
Weight: 190
Strengths: Super strength, flight, super speed, hypnosis, sex appeal
Weaknesses: sunlight, staking, silver, Sookie Stackhouse
Stats: Dracula
Age:
~500
Height: 5’9″
Weight: 160
Strengths: Super strength, shape shifting, flight, hypnosis, originality
Weakness: Water, garlic, sunlight, has to carry hometown dirt, eucharist, staking, decapitation, a penchant for capes

Eric VS. Dracula
Dracula’s been the top vampire for centuries, but bloodsuckers have changed a lot since the Count’s days. While Drac could be taken down with some garlic bread or a swimming pool, today’s vampires are made of sterner stuff. Plus, if one hour of sex burns 350 calories, you can image how much exercise Eric is getting a day.

Winner: Eric Northman

Oh yeah this is ONE OF the surprises, yes there are others, the next one is in the next week, well this isn’t much of a surprise is it? :/

The first full-length trailer for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the two-part finale of J.K.
