Final Twilight Film Gets Release Date

ALTJust when you though it was safe to go on the internet, there’s more Twilight news. Don’t worry, it’s nothing major, so we can soon get back to our quest for the next fashionable supernatural creature (my money’s on Leprechauns.) Summit Entertainment has announced the release date for the fifth and final film of the Twilight saga as November 16th, 2012. Breaking Dawn Part 2, as it’s tentatively titled, will come to theaters almost exactly one year after the release of Part 1 on November 11th, 2011.

The final book in Stephanie Meyer’s repressed teen romance saga, Breaking Dawn, was split to be released as two films, in order to make twice the money stay true to the director’s vision. Robert Pattinson, Kristin Stewart, and Taylor Lautner, will all be reprising their acclaimed roles as people who stand around while counting their paychecks in their mind.

Toy Story 3 to hit $400 million!

How rare is the $400 million dollar movie?

This question seems particularly apropos considering that Disney/Pixar’s “Toy Story 3” is on the verge of reaching this historic milestone.  Through Wednesday, August 4, the 3-D animated juggernaut has earned $392.45 million in domestic revenue.  So let’s break down the time line: with just over $5 million this past weekend and mid-weeks in the $1 million range it will most certainly reach $400 million during the week of August 9.

It’s astonishing to think that in the history of cinema that only 10 (yes you read it correctly, 10) films have ever crossed that milestone.  It’s also notable that six of those instances occurred in the last decade.

This statistic was shocking even to me, a jaded and long-term observer of box office trends and stats.  Just ten films out of the countless thousands of films released throughout the years.  Of course increased ticket prices have made this milestone possible, but it’s still no less of an achievement given the level of competition that exists in the overall entertainment universe.

Here is the list of the current members of the $400 million club:

Avatar - $749.7 million

Titanic – $600.8 million

The Dark Knight - $533.3 million

Star Wars -
$460.9 million

Shrek 2 – $436.7 million

E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial
– $434.9 million

Star Wars: Episode One - The Phantom Menace
– $431.1 million

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest – $423.3 million

Spider-Man – $403.7 million

Transfomers: Revenge of the Fallen – $402.1 million

(Domestic gross only, includes re-releases)

Blizzard: WoW movie still happening despite slow process

wow2

Blizzard’s Vice president of creative development, Chris Metzen, has said the progress on the World of Warcraft movie has slowed, but it’s still happening.

Speaking at Comic Con during a WoW merchandising panel, Metzen said director Sam Raimi is still “very, very passionate” about making the movie, and once the screenplay treatment is finished, “hopefully it’ll start moving very quickly, very soon.”

Back in April, Metzen told VG247 Blizzard was “kinda getting a lot of values together” regarding the story and how best to do the movie.

Sounds like things haven’t evolved much further in the past few months, but all big projects take time, especially if it’s to be done right.

On another WoW related note, Metzen also announced during the panel the next WoW novel will be called The Shattering, and gives readers a backstory leading up to the Cataclysm expansion.

Metzen said there are “dark times ahead” for Azeroth with Deathwing returning, and large parts of the game world will be destroyed by earthquakes.

“It’s going to get rough out there for a while,” he said. “But there’s a plan. The great heroes always rise to the top.”

Movie News Injection!!

(not much actually :p)

Paramount Ready For A New Hunchback Of Notre Dame

The Hunchback of Notre DameCongratulations are in order for Willie Block and Jake Emmanuel, the rookie screenwriting duo who today sold their action-adventure pitch to Paramount Pictures. The high-concept story mixes original ideas with the framework of the traditional Hunchback of Notre Dame story, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Said to be in the vein of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, the film’s plotline is being kept under wraps by producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian of Di Bonaventura Pictures, but the studio is moving quickly on the property. Needless to say, this won’t be anything like the Mouse House’s 1996 version of the Hunchback…

Tim Allen Signed For Toy Story 4

(and here I am, still waiting for the 3rd to come to the cinema in my country *sigh*)

Tim AllenAccording to The Wrap, actor Tim Allen is signed for a fourth Toy Story film. Whether or not Disney/Pixar will move on a new movie is another story entirely.

The trade states that many of the films voice actors could possibly have another film attached to their respective contracts, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that the studio is obligated to put another feature-length sequel into production. We already know that Woody, Buzz, Mr. Potato Head and the rest of the toy gang will appear in a Pixar short that will play in front of the studio’s Cars 2 next summer and that the global popularity of the franchise justifies further application of the brand, but according to Toy Story 3 director Lee Unkrich, the series feels like it is complete.

Says Unkrich: “I really tried my best to end the story of Andy and his toys and bring that story to a close in a really nice way at the end of ['Toy Story 3']. That being said, we know that people love the characters, love Woody and Buzz, and would hate to say good-bye to them completely.”

I know that the Toy Story characters will live in my heart forever and many fans will agree. The third chapter is currently the highest grossing domestic release of the year and that certainly should give Disney brass a reason to consider making another film, but if they are going to do it, I’d suggest pulling the trigger on this one quicker. It was 11 years in between TS2 and TS3, and I don’t think that anyone wants to wait until 2020 for another animated adventure.

‘The Social Network’ Trailer Has Arrived

Ok, so first things first: IT IS EPIC, the music just made this trailer EPIC.

Ears to the ground, everyone and take a listen.

I’ve provided it for you below, because I’m considerate and dependable and like sharing awesome things with awesome people. And no, it’s not another one of those ripoff teasers, because I wouldn’t dare waste your time with one of those.

Depp Says Zombies For Pirates Of The Caribbean 4

ALTWe know that the bombastic Ian McShane will play the villainous pirate Blackbeard in the new Pirates of the Caribbean film, but he may be getting some help of the undead variety. Johnny Depp made a televised appearance during Disney’s presentation at San Diego Comic Con to share some details about Pirates Of The Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides, and let slip that he’d be facing off against zombies in the new adventure. While this could potentially be big news, the series has included the undead before, with the cursed pirates in the first film. I don’t want to get into an argument over what technically counts as a zombie, but it’s possible that Depp meant the return of the villains from the first film, over shambling hordes of peglegged foes. I’m personally hoping for actual pirate zombies, because zombies that already have brain-destroying syphilis could be hilarious. (Plus, they could fight Dr. McNinja, which would be so awesome it would make the internet explode.)

Pirates Of The Caribbean 4, which also stars Penelope Cruz, Astrid Berges-Frisbey, Sam Claflin and Geoffrey Rush, is due out on May 20, 2011.

‘Let Me In’ Trailer

If you need to get the bad taste of Twilight out of your mouth, go and rent Let The Right One In. It’s a smart, atmospheric, and genuinely disturbing vampire film, and one of the best films of the decade. But if you think subtitles are hard and really love that girl from Kick-Ass, you could do worse than going see the American remake Let Me In instead.

Starring Kodi Smit-McPhee, of The Road, and Chloe Moretz, of Kick-Ass, Let Me In tells the story of Owen (Smit-McPhee), an alienated young boy who develops a close friendship with his mysterious new neighbor Abby (Moretz). The remake seems to be staying close to the original, at least visually. Judging by the trailer, it flat-out recreates several moments from Let The Right One In, though hopefully the cat-attack scene with horrible CGI will not be among them. While I appreciate that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, I don’t see the point of remaking a film if it’s going to be exactly the same, but in New Mexico. Hopefully director Matt Reeves will be able to bring something new and unique to the material .

Let Me In is due out on October 1, 2010.

Btw the morse code in the end says: HELP ME

It’s Official!!

JE SUIS A F*CKIN GENIUS!

Nah just kidding, although I seriously suspect it :p

Andrew Garfield Is the Next Spider-Man

That’s the real stuff :p

Andrew GarfieldSony has finally put to rest the rampant rumors about who’ll be headlining their much-anticipated Spider-Man reboot, announcing via a company press release today that Andrew Garfield will star as Peter Parker in the Marc Webb-directed and James Vanderbilt-penned film, which is set to open in 2012.

Below is the text from Sony’s press release. Somebody should probably break the news to Jamie Bell. In the meantime, who’s up for a road trip to Cancun?

CULVER CITY, Calif., July 1, 2010 – After a comprehensive worldwide casting search, Andrew Garfield has been chosen to portray Peter Parker when Spider-Man swings back onto the screen in 3D on July 3, 2012. The new film will begin production in early December directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt. Laura Ziskin and Avi Arad will produce the film from Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios.

Today’s confirmation culminates what has been one of the most eagerly anticipated casting announcements in recent memory. Bloggers, pop culture speculators, and everyday fans have pored over and analyzed every conceivable online rumor in an attempt to discover the identity of the next actor to play Peter Parker. Garfield will immediately begin preparing for the coveted role.

The Spider-Man franchise is one of the most successful in film history and the three previous motion pictures have collectively grossed more than $2.5 billion in worldwide box office.

On selecting Garfield, director Marc Webb said, “Though his name may be new to many, those who know this young actor’s work understand his extraordinary talents. He has a rare combination of intelligence, wit, and humanity. Mark my words, you will love Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker.”

Paranormal Activity 2 Trailer Released

Everyone’s favorite low-budget frightfest is back with this new trailer for Paranormal Activity 2, which premiered before Eclipse. The sequel to last fall’s surprise hit looks like a lot more of the same home-movie style horror, but with a new director, different color filter and a toddler. I’m not sure that the Paranormal Activity can be a successful series now that the novelty of the premise has worn off, but adding an evil, demon-possessed baby would go a long way towards maintaining their originality.

As long as they don’t hurt the doggy!

2010 Vampire Showdown

16 Bloodsuckers

One Winner

Let’s read :p

Hello fellow mates who are sick of hearing about vampires! So today, is the release of the so-not fantastic Ecplise, and because of that here’s a little tournament between the 16 most epic vampires! :p anyway see it, it’s fun.

*some results may be corrupted due to my preference* just kidding! :p

I would have put an image showing the tournament table, how do I say it, changing with the progression but that would require a lot of images and it wouldn’t turn out that well so here’s only two :p

Round 1:

1). Eric (True Blood) VS. Rayne (BloodRayne)
After long, hot, sweaty hours of…um… fighting, Rayne finally surrendered to Eric’s enormous…talent. We can’t blame her; few women can resist his blond, muscular Viking mystique.

2). Bill (True Blood) VS. Lestat (Interview with a Vampire)
Much like the actor who portrays him (Tom Cruise), Lestat de Lioncourt’s best days are behind him. If Brad Pitt and a little girl can finish him off, then Bill Compton is certainly more than capable of staking this frou-frou Frenchman.

3). Caleb (Bordello of Blood) VS. David (The Lost Boys)
Kiefer Sutherland’s undead ringleader already clashed with a Corey Feldman character in Joel Schumacher’s dark action film, but the former child star’s own vampire Caleb Verdoux is no match for the biker bloodsucker. Sorry Caleb, the clock has run out for you!

4). Selene (Underworld) VS. Satanico Pandemonium (From Dusk Til Dawn)
Behold the battle of the bloodsucking babes! These two vamps are not to be trifled with – one lays waste to werewolves while the other slays scumbags at sleazy strip club. Satanico tried to seduce Selene with her sultry dance act, but Selene doesn’t swing that way, so she put a couple of silver bullets in her head and put an end to the Pandemonium.

5). Blade VS. Amy Peterson (Fright Night)
There’s really no question about the outcome of this duel. Blade is a stone cold killer; he lives to vanquish vampires and sweet Amy Peterson from Fright Night is relatively new to the whole undead thing, so the Daywalker put her down quickly.

6). Eli (Let The Right One In) VS. Edward Cullen (Twilight)
Eli may be pretty tough for a 12 year old, but if Edward is effective against anything, it’s pre-teen girls.

7). Dracula (Bram Stoker’s Dracula) VS. Spike (Buffy The Vampire Slayer)
Buffy’s most badass vampire tried his best, but couldn’t beat the original dark master (bator). Guess he’ll never get those 11 pounds back.

8). Blacula VS. The Count (Sesame Street)
What is there to say? The Count’s obsessive compulsive counting was a pretty big liability in this fight. “One, two… two vampires! AH AH AH AH AH!” Not for long, Von Count. Blacula has an insatiable thirst… even for synthetic muppet flesh.

Round 2:

9). Eric VS. Bill
Bill can whine all he wants about our decision, but we all know Eric is way cooler. For one thing, he can go more than 10 minutes without getting kidnapped. For another, Bill’s so short Eric can probably just hold the top of his head and Bill won’t be able to reach him.

10). David VS. Selene
Both David and Selene have taken their share of lives, but the former generally preys on weak humans while the latter takes on all sorts of supernatural beings. Her fighting skills (and arsenal) are therefore vastly superior to David’s, making the battle pretty painless for Selene.

11). Blade VS. Edward Cullen
Edward looked around, forlorn, his perfect eyes haunted by repressed lust and an unquenchable thirst. A footstep sounded in the darkness behind him. “Bella?” he whispered, his undead pout spreading to a grin. “I don’t think so, motherfucker.” Edward had just a second to turn before he felt the stake tear through his sparkly flesh. He looked up into the face of death and saw its cruel smile. “Some motherfuckers are always trying to ice-skate uphill.”

12). Dracula VS. Blacula
You’d think that Blacula could take down Dracula because he’s younger, hipper, and lives in Los Angeles instead of some decrepit Eastern European castle, right? Wrong. Dracula brought Blacula into this world, and he can take him out just as easily. That’s just the way things tend to work in the vampire world. Deal with it.

Round 3:

13). Eric VS. Selene
Unlike Rayne, Selene is too hardcore to be confused by Eric’s demonstrable sexual charms. Nevertheless, Eric Northman, the most powerful vampire in Area 5, is no Lycan. The former Viking is over 1000 years old, can rip a man into pieces, and flies. Selene, sadly, doesn’t stand a chance.

14). Blade VS. Dracula
Blade battled a bogus Dracula in his third cinematic outing, but he’s never faced anyone or anything quite as terrifying as Gary Oldman’s Prince of Darkness. Though he’s put an end to vampire villains like Morbius and Deacon Frost in his time, he finally succumbed to Vlad III Draculea.

Final Battle:

Eric

Dracula

Stats: Eric
Age:
~1000
Height: 6’4″
Weight: 190
Strengths: Super strength, flight, super speed, hypnosis, sex appeal
Weaknesses: sunlight, staking, silver, Sookie Stackhouse
Stats: Dracula
Age:
~500
Height: 5’9″
Weight: 160
Strengths: Super strength, shape shifting, flight, hypnosis, originality
Weakness: Water, garlic, sunlight, has to carry hometown dirt, eucharist, staking, decapitation, a penchant for capes

Eric VS. Dracula
Dracula’s been the top vampire for centuries, but bloodsuckers have changed a lot since the Count’s days. While Drac could be taken down with some garlic bread or a swimming pool, today’s vampires are made of sterner stuff. Plus, if one hour of sex burns 350 calories, you can image how much exercise Eric is getting a day.

Winner: Eric Northman

Oh yeah this is ONE OF the surprises, yes there are others, the next one is in the next week, well this isn’t much of a surprise is it? :/

Serkis Signs On To Rise Of The Apes

ALTAndy Serkis, the man known for not playing human, has got his stinkin’ paws on a role in Rise Of The Apes. Serkis has been cast as Caesar, the lead chimp who leads a revolt against the humans, in the Planet Of The Apes prequel.

Rise Of The Apes will be set in the modern day and serve as an origin story for the primate franchise. The story follows a scientist (James Franco) whose genetic engineering accidentally creates an advanced race of apes.  Frieda Pinto and John Lithgow have also signed on for supporting roles.

Serkis is best known for his motion capture roles, such as Gollum in The Lord Of The Rings and the titular Kong in King Kong, in which his performance is digitally captured and generated into the film. Weta Workshop, the CGI wizards behind Serkis’ previous motion-capture performances, is also providing the visual effects for Apes. Let’s hope that they didn’t throw out Serkis’ golf-ball suit.

Rupert Wyatt, of The Escapist, is directing the 20th Century Fox production. Rise Of The Apes is due out in June, 2011.

‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’ Trailer Debuts Online

The first full-length trailer for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the two-part finale of J.K. Rowling’s blockbuster teen wizard saga, is set to debut in theaters on June 30th, prior to showings of the latest chapter of that other billion-dollar literary phenomenon, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (which is NOTHING compared to harry potter, Twilight sucks). For those muggles ill-inclined to wait in line for hours with hordes of screaming Twi-hards just to get a two-minute glimpse of Harry and the gang, Warner Bros. was kind enough to release the clip online today:

watch it!! most EPIC.TRAILER.EVAR!!

And yes I’m a fan of Harry Potter but I have to admit this is epic

epic…

EPIC..

EPIIICCCCCC!!!!

I seriously cannot wait until november, please help me..

Thank god I have not read the books, this is why I don’t read books, because this is EPIC and I want to enjoy its epicness until the end.

I so need to create another tag and category for this: EPICNESS

Part one of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows opens November 19, 2010. The film is directed by David Yates and stars Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson.

The Little Fockers Have Arrived!

If you’ve been missing Jack Byrnes, Bernie Focker and the entire extended Focker family, then you’re in luck today because Universal Pictures has finally unveiled the first teaser trailer for the anticipated comedy Little Fockers!

In the film, the test of wills between Jack Byrnes (Robert De Niro) and Greg Focker (Ben Stiller) escalates to new heights as the entire extended family descends for the twins’ birthday party. Greg must prove to the skeptical Jack that he’s fully capable as the man of the house. But with all the misunderstandings, spying and covert missions, will Greg pass Jack’s final test and become the family’s next patriarch… or will the circle of trust be broken for good?

I certainly don’t think so. Universal needs the Focker franchise like Americans need fast food – they can’t live without it! Expect to see something like Four Fockers in the next few years, because I doubt that the studio will let this series die anytime soon. Little Fockers will hit theaters on December 22nd, but I know you can’t wait that long to see the threequel, so check out the trailer below :P

Peter Jackson Is Directing The Hobbit!!!

ALTDeadline Hollywood is reporting that Jackson has decided to direct both installments of the two-part prequel, and is in final negotiations with Warner Bros., New Line, and MGM at this very moment.

This couldn’t be better news for fans of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, who were sorely disappointed when Pan’s Labyrinth auteur Guillermo del Toro walked away from the project last month.  Del Toro’s departure left the future of The Hobbit in doubt, especially after David Dobkin and Brett Ratner’s names were floated as possible replacements.

AWESOME!

Robert Pattinson Related to Dracula, Say Genealogists

As much as this story belongs on the third page of The Onion, it actually comes straight from the Associated Press.  Last night a team of genealogists announced that they had uncovered a distant familial relationship between Twilight star Robert Pattinson and the Transylvanian Prince Vlad III (a.k.a. “The Impaler”)  – the inspiration for Bram Stroker’s Dracula.

In news that is already melting tween hearts around the nation, researchers at Ancestry.com revealed that both Pattinson and Vlad III are related through their connections to the British royal family: Princes William and Harry are Pattinson’s distant cousins, and “The Impaler” was their distant uncle.

As if this news couldn’t get any weirder, it has been suggested that Stephenie Meyer, the author of the ‘Twilight’ books, is also related to the royal family, and therefore to both Pattinson and the infamous Transylvanian..wicked

Pattinson and his noble lineage will be on display in Twilight: Eclipse, opening this Wednesday, June 30.

Zombieland Director to Lead Babe in the Woods

ALTZombieland director Ruben Fleischer will continue his working relationship with Columbia Pictures on Babe in the Woods, which the studio has hired him to develop and direct.  Mike White (School of Rock, Nacho Libre) wrote the action-comedy, which follows a young Midwestern girl who is targeted by the New Jersey mob after beginning her freshman year at Yale.

White and David Bernad are producing Babe in the Woods, which is a priority project for Columbia.  That means a busy schedule for Fleischer, who is also directing 30 Minutes or Less with Danny McBride, Aziz Ansari, and Jesse Eisenberg, and, of course, the requisite Zombieland 2: 3D.  Fleischer also reportedly pitched an untitled project to DreamWorks recently, which he’ll direct and produce with Nicholas Stoller and Gavin Polone.  That’s a lot of work for a director whose first feature film debuted only last year!  Mazel Tov, Fleischer.

Disney And Marvel Team Up For Dr. Strange

Since Disney purchased Marvel Studios, speculation has run wild over which Marvel superhero Disney would bring to the big screen. ALT It turns out that hero may be Doctor Strange. Screenwriting duo Thomas Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer, of Sahara and the upcoming Conan, have been hired to script a film about the mysterious magician for Marvel and Disney.

The Marvel series, originally written by comics God Stan Lee, tells the story of Dr. Stephen Strange, a neurosurgeon who has his hands irreparably injured in a car crash. He travels the world searching for a cure, and in the process learns sorcery from a hermit in the Himalayas, which he uses to combat the forces of evil and do the usual superhero type things.

Strange is one of a number of superhero films Marvel has in the works, but the tale of the mysterious magician will be the first produced in collaboration with Disney studios. Marvel franchise films  Iron Man 3, Thor, The First Avenger: Captain America, and The Avengers are being produced through Paramount, while adaptions of The Runaways and Ant-Man are being developed independently.

Columbia, Dimension and Paramount have each planned unsuccessful adaptations of Dr. Strange in the past, with writers and directors from Wes Craven to Guillermo Del Toro attached. Marvel’s choice of screenwriters isn’t as exciting or evocative as others who’ve been considered for the franchise, but a more conservative take on the project could ensure that it actually gets made. While Strange could be a very interesting project- it requires a slightly older male lead, and will have mental and mystical fight scenes over the usual punch-and-fly fare- superhero fatigue may kill this project before it gets off the ground. Which would spare us from the inevitable Dr. StrangeHate jokes if the movie sucks.

The Green Hornet Trailer Is Here!

The trailer is here for Michel Gondry’s The Green Hornet, starring a somewhat slimmed-down Seth Rogen (who co-wrote the script) and Jay Chou, the Taiwanese actor and musician who has a sizable following throughout Asia, but is still largely unknown in America.  In The Green Hornet, Britt Reid (Rogen), heir to his father’s newspaper empire, chooses to become a masked hero known as The Green Hornet when his father is mysteriously gunned down by thugs.  Assisting Reid is martial arts expert Kato (Chou), his wry sidekick.

I kinda like it.

Clint Eastwood to Direct DiCaprio in J. Edgar Hoover Biopic

ALTLeonardo DiCaprio, one of Hollywood’s most talented A-list actors, is set to star in a biopic of the F.B.I.’s first director (and notorious communist hunter), J. Edgar Hoover, to be directed by the legendary Clint Eastwood.  The yet-unnamed project will be DiCaprio’s first with Eastwood, a substantial shift for the actor who has worked with director Martin Scorsese on all four of his most recent films.

Although some people might be quick to draw a parallel between this film and Robert De Niro’s 2006 The Good Shepherd (starring Matt Damon), the comparison doesn’t really hold up.  De Niro’s was a fictional biopic of a man loosely based on James Angleton, the ALTchief of the C.I.A during the early years of the Cold War; Hoover’s career spanned the late 20s and early 30s, at the height of a wave of gangster violence caused by Prohibition and organized crime.  And most importantly, Eastwood as a director is far superior to De Niro, whose only other directorial project was the 1993 A Bronx Tale.

The epic F.B.I. drama and Hoover biopic will be produced by Brian Grazer and Rob Lorenz, with a script from Dustin Lance Black, who wrote 2008′s Academy Award nominated Milk.  Principal photography should begin later this year.

Lauren Graham Joins Scream 4

Lauren GrahamFor a woman best known for her work on the small screen, Lauren Graham has a pretty impressive filmography. With titles like Bad Santa, The Pacifier, Flash of Genius, Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs and Evan Almighty under her belt, she’s been seen by millions of moviegoers and has hundreds of millions of dollars in box-office to her name. She’s gonna have a whole lot more of that after she finishes shooting her new project – Wes Craven’s anticipated Scream 4.

Shock Til You Drop broke the news earlier this morning, following Graham’s appearance last night on The Tonight Show where she confirmed that she’ll be playing mother to Emma Roberts’ Jill Kessler. The funny thing about this recent addition to the cast is that the two ladies just finished another film together – Focus Features It’s Kind Of A Funny Story. Coincidence? Probably not.

Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox and David Arquette all return to the highly successful franchise and will be joined by Hayden Panettiere, Rory Culkin, Lake Bell and more. Filming is set to begin on June 28th for an April 15th, 2011 release.

Spielberg’s War Horse Gets A Cast

ALT‘Steven Spielberg’ is one of those names that has such cachet that we sit up and take notice any time he does, well, anything.  Although Spielberg’s last project was 2008′s disappointing Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, his latest, War Horse, looks to hearken back to the tone of his 1987 Empire of the Sun with its war-torn setting and human drama.

War Horse – the story of the friendship between a boy (Joey) and his horse, who is sold to the British army during the First World War (the horse, not the boy) – boasts an impressive international cast, with Jeremy Irvine (formerly of the National Youth Theatre) playing the young horse owner, Emily Watson (Gosford Park, Cold Souls) playing his mother, and Peter Mullan (Trainspotting, Children of Men) his father.  Niels Arestrup (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly) plays the grandfather of a young French girl (Celine Buckens) who takes Joey in.

Other renowned members of the cast include Tom Hiddleston (to play Loki in Thor and the upcoming Avengers movie), Rainer Bock (Inglorious Basterds), Patrick Kennedy (Atonement), and Stephen Graham (Baby Face Nelson in Public Enemies and Al Capone in the upcoming HBO series Boardwalk Empire).  Rounding out the ensemble are Nicolas Bro, Leonard Carow, Robert Emms, and David Kross.

War Horse is being adapted by Lee Hall, the writer behind Billy Elliot, and Richard Curtis from the novel by Michael Morpurgo.  Expect War Horse to hit theaters August 10, 2011.
